Call for Papers & Thematic Issues

BJHMR welcomes submissions year-round and periodically issues calls for thematic and special issues.

BJHMR welcomes high-quality submissions across medicine, healthcare and the allied health sciences throughout the year; authors do not need to wait for a specific call in order to submit. From time to time the journal also issues calls for thematic (special) issues that gather research around a particular clinical area, health challenge or method.

Open (regular) submissions

Regular submissions are accepted continuously through the online system and follow the standard editorial and peer-review process. Please prepare your manuscript in line with the guidance under For Authors, follow the relevant reporting guideline, and confirm that your work fits the journal’s Aims and Scope before submitting.

Thematic and special issues

Thematic issues allow the journal to give focused attention to emerging or significant areas of research — for example a specific disease area, public-health priority, digital-health innovation, or an allied health discipline. When a thematic issue is open, its scope, submission requirements and deadline are announced on this page and through the journal’s announcements. Submissions to a thematic issue are peer-reviewed to the same standard as regular submissions, and inclusion is never guaranteed.

Proposing a thematic issue

The journal welcomes proposals from prospective guest editors. A proposal should normally set out the theme and its significance, the names and affiliations of the proposed guest editors, an indicative list of topics and a realistic timeline. Guest editors are expected to uphold the journal’s ethical and peer-review standards and to declare any conflicts of interest. Proposals may be sent to the Editorial Office.
