Article Types

The kinds of article TECS publishes, with guidance on scope and length.

TECS welcomes original work across engineering and the computing sciences. The journal does not impose a fixed word limit, but the length of a manuscript should be justified by its content, and very long manuscripts can slow review. Choose the article type that best fits your study and follow Preparing Your Manuscript. The types and indicative lengths below are proposed and align with common practice in engineering and computing.

TypeDescriptionIndicative length
Research ArticleOriginal research presenting a new method, algorithm, system or result, with rigorous analysis or reproducible evaluation.5,000–9,000 words
Review / Survey ArticleCritical, structured survey of a field or technique, identifying gaps and future directions.12,000–15,000 words
Short CommunicationConcise report of a significant preliminary result or focused contribution.up to 3,500 words
Technical NoteA new technique, tool, dataset, benchmark or protocol of practical value.2,000–4,000 words
Case StudyIn-depth analysis of an applied engineering or computing problem, system or deployment.4,000–7,000 words
