Abstract

This short first-person article describes how the author's own phenotype changed over the course of life and offers a genetic interpretation of these changes. The author reports that the parents were of different nationalities and differed in their anatomical constitution, and suggests that, as a result of crossing-over, genomic regions were inherited that were different enough to cause noticeable changes in phenotype throughout life: in youth the author more closely resembled the mother, and later the father. This is documented with photographs of the parents and of the author from the age of 12 onwards. The article then considers another case of human morphogenesis, a person who looked like a one-year-old child until the age of 20. The author proposes that such arrested development results from the transposition of circular prokaryotic DNA into the cytoplasm of the cell, arguing that free DNA fragments persist only if they form circular structures that facilitate their insertion into the chromosome, and that a circular region in DNA leads to a loop in the reading of information and a braking of morphogenesis. The article concludes that slowing or improving a patient's anatomical and psychological state through genetic engineering would require manipulating the inversion and transposition of the genome in adults, and that patients may feel side effects of rejuvenation or looping too early.

Abstract prepared by the editorial office from the full text of the article; the authors did not supply one.
