Abstract

Background: Gynecological uterine leiomyomas commonly called uterine fibroids are smooth muscle benign tumors of the uterus that occur in women of reproductive age. Prevalence is estimated at 20-80% globally, depending on geographical location, diagnostic methods, age, race and ethnicity, and modern treatment is beyond the reach of the poor and middle class. Objectives: To determine evidence and separate myths from facts, clear the air about superstition, encourage appropriate use, and make summary evidence available for easy access and use for busy healthcare professionals and policy makers. Design of the Study: Systematic Review. Place and Duration of the Study: SSD Department, Federal University of Technology Owerri from January 2026-August 2026. Methods: A qualitative systematic review methods were used for data collection, analysis, interpretation and synthesis of relevant peer reviewed evidence regarding Tetracarpidium conophorum. Search engines including google scholar were used for data mining. Results: Chemical and phytochemical concentration evaluation showed moderate to high levels and clinical evaluation suggested a very strong correlation between oral administration of ethanol and other extraction substances of Tetracarpidium conophorum leaves extracts to be significantly effective in shrinking benign uterine leiomyomas in study animals. Conclusion: Tetracarpidium conophorum leaves extract is high in phytochemical compounds and it is a fact that Tetracarpidium conophorum leaves extract is strongly potent in controlling uterine leiomyomas in study animals, and more evidence is necessary. Finding will be beneficial to academia, healthcare, public health, community, and policy decision.
